Pediatric Eye Care

Your child may be nearsighted (myopia), farsighted (hyperopia) or have astigmatism.  It is important that children who need glasses, wear them full time when they are young to develop good, three-dimensional vision.  If your child cannot identify alphabet letters because of age or development, here is a link to pictures that can be reviewed at home before the vision test at the eye doctor. Visit our optical shop to learn more about our selection of pediatric frames.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness.  Sometimes called the “silent thief of sight”, glaucoma can damage your vision gradually, so you don’t notice any loss of vision until the disease is at an advanced stage.  Glaucoma is an eye condition that develops when too much fluid pressure builds up inside of the eye.  This increase in pressure, called intraocular pressure, can damage the optic nerve, which transmits images to the brain.  If damage to the optic nerve persists untreated for long periods of time, glaucoma will cause loss of vision that could lead to blindness.  Most people with glaucoma have no early symptoms or pain from this increased pressure.  For this reason, it is important to have regular routine eye exams, so that glaucoma can be diagnosed and treated before long-term visual loss occurs.
